Striking blue eyes, a lean muscular body, and a heart of gold – this work of art is called the Doberman Husky Mix.

You might hear other names, such as Siberian Pinscher, or Dobsky. But, it’s the same dog with a great sense of loyalty and devotion to its family.

The Dobsky is a mixed-breed dog that came from mixing two purebred dogs: a Siberian Husky and a Doberman Pinscher.

When you have these two as the parent breeds, you can be certain you are getting a unique puppy.

You have to be prepared for the rollercoaster of traits. Too aloof or too friendly? Doberman eyebrows or a Husky mask? Easy to train or too stubborn?

As I said, it’s a rollercoaster, but like all rollercoasters, it’s a joyride.

So, c’mon… join the joyride.

They say opposites attract and make the best outcome, and in this case, it is true.

When you mix the cold and calm Doberman with the overly friendly and stubborn Husky, you get the best outcome – the Doberman Husky.

They can be medium-sized to large dogs depending on their genetics, and because they are a Siberian husky mix, they are amazing family pets with a lot of need for daily exercise.

But, it’s not only the husky parent that has a say in the outcome. The Doberman genes are strong, too, and when they prevail, the Dobsky needs proper mental stimulation and a lot of attention!

How did they come into this world?

Who Are The Parents?

You can say that Doberman Husky mix puppies are like celebrity pups. Their dog parents are popular dog breeds.

One is a sled dog – the Siberian Husky, and the other one is a guard dog – the Doberman Pinscher. Both dog breeds are famous for their loyalty and big loving heart.

Let’s talk about a few things about them.

The Doberman Pinscher

We know it as the Doberman Pinscher, but if you cross the Pond and go to its origin country, Germany, then you’ll hear the name Dobermann.

The name comes from a German tax collector, called Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann… the man who created this breed.

He lived in the 1800s, and his line of work was dangerous, often including traveling to less safe parts of the 19th-century German town called Apolda. He needed protection.

So, he came up with the grand idea of making a crossbreed that would become one of the best protective dogs in the world.

But, the process of making the muscular dog breed we know today included mixing a lot of different dog breeds:

• German Pinscher

• Rottweiler

• German Shepherd

• German Shorthaired Pointer

• Weimaraner

• Great Dane

• Black Greyhound

• Thuringian Shepherd Dog

Phew! Quite a list!

The Siberian Husky

Do you remember the famous Balto? He was the sled dog who became a national hero after saving the whole Nome town population in Alaska during the diphtheria outbreak. He was a Siberian Husky.

Balto is a prime representation of the Siberian Husky dog breed. Strong, determined, friendly, and the heart of a giant.

Siberian Huskies were bred as working dogs by the Chukchi people living in the Siberian planes of Russia.

These Indigenous people knew they needed strong working and companion dogs capable of surviving the harsh low temperatures of Siberia.

They used them for pulling sleds, protecting the reindeer herds, and guarding their weakest in the community – children! Not only from wolves and other dangerous animals, but from the cold as well.

The Chukchi children would snuggle in their doggy’s thick fur and keep warm.

The Dobsky is a designer dog. That means they were specifically “designed” or bred to have all the best qualities of the two purebred dogs they come from.

Designer dogs are also called hybrids, and our hybrid, in this case, is made of the Siberian Husky and the Doberman Pinscher.

Doberman Husky mix dogs are loyal, friendly, alert, and affectionate. But, each Doberman Husky Mix puppy can have its own set of traits depending on its genetics, or better yet, the influence of its parent dog breeds’ genes.

Appearance Of The Doberman Husky Mix

Because they are a mix of two very distinctive purebred dog breeds, Dobsky puppies can have various looks.
Dobsky puppies can come in all kinds of colors, sizes, and weights.

The most common colors are black and tan, black and white, and red and tan. But, as mentioned, they can come in every color variation their parent dog breeds can have, plus a mix of them all.

The usual height of the Doberman Husky mix is from 22 to 27 inches (55 to 68cm). The usual weight is from 81 to 100 pounds (36 to 45kg).

Most puppies inherit a double coat, but they can have a single coat of a Doberman, too.

Males are somewhat larger than females.

So, in general, if you want to know the looks of a Dobsky puppy, it is important to know some of the main characteristics of both parents.

The Doberman’s Appearance

This is a medium-sized dog breed, with a smooth, silky, and short coat, usually coming in black and tan color. The other coat colors include blue and tan, red and tan, and fawn and tan.

The Doberman Pinscher is a muscular dog with an elegant appearance. They have something mesmerizing in their looks, like gothic beauty…dark, but you cannot look away.

Their height varies from 26 to 28 inches (66 to 71cm) in males, and 24 to 26 inches (60 to 66cm) in females.

As for their weight, it is usually between 60 and 100 pounds (27 to 45kg).

The Husky’s Appearance

The Siberian Husky is a medium-sized dog with a medium-length double coat. They are strong and enduring, with an easy, almost effortless gait, and a bushy tail.

The AKC standards include nine different colors. The most common colors are black and white, and red and white.

As for their height, the usual is between 20 and 25 inches (50 to 60cm), and the weight is between 35 and 60 pounds (15 to 27kg).

Temperament Of The Doberman Husky Mix

Doberman Husky mix doggies are extremely loyal, affectionate, and energetic. They are a large breed of dogs, and they need adequate space to shine and show all of their qualities.

They will require a lot of daily exercises. so get ready to run and jump, slide and bump for at least 60 minutes a day, every day!

They are up for it all, and they will be happy to do it with you and your family, all the while protecting you wherever you go.

Their affection and attention-seeking have made them great pets for families with children. But, they need to be properly socialized from an early age.

Depending on the influence of the genes coming either from the Doberman or the Husky, they can be more reserved and cold to strangers, or more friendly and open to making new friends.

They also get along well with other animals or pets, so including them in a multi-pet household is not a problem.

Even though they need proper early socialization, one thing is common for both Doberman Pinschers and Siberian Huskies – they are not naturally aggressive dogs, but friendly and family oriented.

That means that their mixed offspring will have the same friendly qualities.

What influence can they have?

The Doberman Temperament

They are loyal, courageous, alert, great with children, and highly protective of their family…and guess what – you are their family!

Doberman Pinschers are also one of the best guard dogs, and they are highly intelligent, making them the top students at training centers.

They love their family and their owner, especially children with whom they get along perfectly. Doberman will not only guard your yard, but also your children from any intruder or harm.

The Husky Temperament

If you want to describe a Siberian Husky in three words, those words would be: friendly, outgoing, and determined.

They get along well with children (after all, they were bred to keep them warm and safe) and with other dogs and animals. But, as with all dog breeds, no matter the size or origin, early socialization is always needed.

Huskies will surprise you with their good intentions and howling. That’s right – they don’t bark…they howl. A lot.

You might keep that in mind if you are living in an apartment complex with a lot of grumpy neighbors. Your Doberman Husky mix can inherit this trait as well.

Health Of The Doberman Husky Mix

Photo from: @nala.the.dobsky

Just like their purebred parents, Doberman Husky Mx dogs are a healthy breed of dogs.

They can have the same health issues as their dog parents. Most of them are genetic and are inherited which leaves space for genetic testing.

Any reputable breeder will show you proof of genetic screening or DNA testing of the pup’s parent dogs.

This is important if you want to be sure if your dog has some of the most common health problems that a Doberman Husky mix can have, like:

• eye problems, including cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy, and cherry eye

• Von Willebrand’s disease

• hip dysplasia

• elbow dysplasia

Cherry Eye

All dogs and mammals in general have tear glands in the tissue surrounding the eyes. Sometimes, these glands (and the tissue itself) can get inflamed.

If that happens in dogs, a health issue called “cherry eye” can occur. The medical term is nictitans gland prolapse.

READ MORE  Corgi Husky: The Perfect Blend of Cuteness and Energy

It means your dog’s tear gland became bigger due to inflammation, and it is bulging out of the eye like a little pink to the reddish ball.

The condition is not painful, but if not treated, it can lead to a more serious problem, which can cause losing eyesight in the affected eye.

The treatment for cherry eye is surgical, and it includes removing the inflamed tear gland.

So, no… the cherry eye problem cannot go away on its own, and we cannot treat it at home. The best and the only option is to take your doggy to the vet.

Hip Dysplasia

This is a genetic disease that can be exacerbated by environmental factors like diet, exercise, muscle mass, etc.

Hip dysplasia means that the femur (thigh bone) and the pelvis do not grow and develop at the same speed, and they end up causing looseness of the hip. This further leads to all kinds of degenerative hip joint problems.

This is a painful condition in dogs, and it has to be treated in order for your dog to have a healthy, happy, and long life.

The most common (and one of the first) signs are weakness in the hind legs, as well as avoiding using the affected leg.

Your veterinarian will decide on the best treatment, depending on the age of your dog and the developmental stage of the disease.

First Health Issue Signs

No matter the breed, it is important to take your dog for regular vet checks and pay attention if their behavior changes.

Also, with strong Husky genes, Dobsky puppies will have a softer undercoat and a longer top coat. They will need proper care in the summer heat, especially if you are living in a very hot part of the world.

Most of the time, we notice that something is wrong when it’s too late because dogs are amazing at keeping their health issues hidden. So, if you notice some of these signs, it is time to take your dog to the local vet:

• vomiting

• lethargy

• diarrhea

• constant sneezing or coughing

• avoiding food for more than 24 hours

• runny eyes and/or nose

• problems while urinating

• swollen, red gums

These signs could point to anything from allergies to food poisoning. But, it is important to notice them and tell them to your vet so that they can give a proper diagnosis and treatment.

As it was already said, the Doberman Husky mix is a healthy dog breed, and you shouldn’t have a lot of health issues to deal with during the dog’s lifetime.

Now that we’ve seen all the colors of the Dobksy, here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions when it comes to this awesome doggy mix.

What is The Price of a Doberman Husky Mix?

A Doberman Husky mix cannot be seen very often, so the price range varies from breeder to breeder. It should go somewhere between $400 and $1,200.

But, as you can see in the answer to the question, Where can you buy a Dobsky?, you’ll see that I’ve found breeders who are offering a price of $250.

READ MORE  https://www.pupvine.com/popular-lhasa-apso-mixes/

But, keep in mind that this, or a similar price, either means that the breeder is not a professional one or that the dog has no ancestors stated on paper.

If you do come across such a Doberman Husky mix, you can always do a DNA test and find out all you need to know about the genetics of your dog.

Where Can I Find A Doberman Husky Mix?

If you search for a breeder who only sells the Doberman Huskymix called the Dobsky, you won’t find a lot of results. Most people sell their mixed puppies on various pet-selling websites, and they rarely have a website of their own.

One place where a lot of people have posted their Dobsky puppies for sale is a website called: Pet Classified.

This website is a place to sell or buy any pet no matter the animal or dog breed, and it offers some guidelines to follow in order to have a happy experience. They advise you to “beware of unrealistic offers” and to “pay on the collection”.

The website is a generally safe place where people come to do business and get good reviews, but just like any online place, they can have some scammers.

Another website to try your luck and find a Doberman Huskymix is Petfinder. They are much more developed, and are in cooperation with some major pet food brands, making their business a bit safer.

Finally, the website called Adopt-a-Pet is a place where you can either get a puppy for free or for a small transportation fee/vet check, and be one to save a puppy’s life. You will be adopting a dog from a shelter, rescue, or private owner.

Good luck in finding your perfect Doberman Husky Mix!

What Is The Lifespan of A Doberman Husky Mix?

The Dobsky is a healthy dog with healthy, purebred parents. That means their life expectancy is from 10 to 14 years.

If you take proper care of the dog if the parents were healthy, and without hereditary diseases, if the pup had proper immunization via vaccination, and was socialized, loved, and pampered – you are going to have a best friend for a long time!

Trust me, I know…14 years seems nothing compared to the love we have for our four-legged family members, but it’s one of the best times of our lives, and it is worth living for.

Is The Doberman Husky Mix Hypoallergenic?

Photo from: @nala.the.dobsky

The simple answer is: no.

The Dobsky’s parents, the Husky and the Doberman Pinscher, are not hypoallergenic either. Because the Dobsky gets a coat type from their parents, there is no possibility to have a hypoallergenic Doberman Husky mix.

Maybe in the future, if the dog gets crossed with another breed (a hypoallergenic one), the outcome might be the one we’re looking for.

But, it should be noted that no dog is 100% hypoallergenic.

Is It Easy To Train A Doberman Husky Mix?

Booth the Doberman Pinscher and the Siberian Husky are very intelligent dog breeds, giving the Doberman Husky mix a proper amount of gray cells and brain wrinkles. This means their training should be easy. But, I said “should because those

Husky gray cells can sometimes be pretty stubborn.

This doesn’t mean they can’t be trained. They are simply not very eager to follow rules that don’t include sleds, running, and protecting the pack.

But, if the mixed pup gets the Doberman’s traits, then it will truly be a piece of cake. Dobermans are famous for their obedience and loyalty, making them one of the easiest dogs to train.

Those are one of the reasons why these dogs are used by police, and are not just guard dogs.

So, once again, training depends on the dominant genes in your Dobsky pup.

It could be very easy if the Doberman genes are dominant. Or, it could take a lot of patience if the Husky genes are dominant, meaning your puppy is truly a Husky mix breed.

Everything is like throwing dice with Dobsky dogs.

How Do You Groom A Doberman Husky Mix?

Once again, this depends on the dominant genes in the Dobsky’s DNA.

In general, this means that if your Doberman Husky mix puppy inherits the Siberian Husky coat, then weekly grooming is a must. The ideal would be twice a week.

The good thing is that their coat does not need clipping or trimming. Of course, grooming changes once the dog enters the shedding phase, which is common in spring and fall.

If the coat is of the Doberman, then the grooming is much easier and it doesn’t need to be done as often. This is because the Doberman Pinscher has a short, smooth coat, with no undercoat to render additional grooming requirements.

If your Dobsky pup inherits the Doberman’s coat, you can groom him according to his activity level. In other words, it depends on whether it’s needed or not after a day spent outdoors.

Cleaning your dog’s ears is also something that needs to be done regularly. Especially after a hike or any other outdoor activity.

This includes checking for foreign objects or pieces of outdoor plants, especially the infamous Foxtail grass that can cause a lot of trouble for your dog.

As for baths, the Doberman Husky mix is a clean dog, but like all canines, it can have a splash in the water. So, bathing your dog depends on the dog’s outdoor activity time.

What Is Proper Nutrition for The Doberman Husky Mix?

You want what is best for your dog, and feeding comes as one of the most important steps in making your dog healthy and happy.

The first thing you should do for your Doberman Husky mix is to divide the meals into several meals a day. Of course, fresh and clean water should be available at all times.

This way, you prevent your dog from becoming overweight (you also prevent all the health issues coming with it), and your dog will have a sense of order.

How much a dog can or needs to eat a day depends on many factors such as age, health, activity level, whether neutered/spayed or intact, size, etc.

The average amount of dog food needed for a medium-sized Doberman Husky mix is two to four cups of kibble a day. You should always search for high-quality kibble with a lot of nutrients.

You can always add a bit of vegetable for your dog to enrich its diet, e.g., carrots, peas, kale, etc.

Are Husky Mixes Good Dogs?

Photo from: @yuki.walks

From Chihuahuas and Golden Retrievers to Pitbulls – all dogs are good dogs, and so is the Doberman Husky mix.

Of course, choosing a dog depends on what size you are looking for, how you lead your life, whether or not you have a family, where you live, etc.

The Doberman Husky mix is the best dog for active families with children, and living somewhere where a dog can have a lot of opportunities to run, jump, and sniff around.

This doesn’t mean that a Dobsky can’t live in a smaller apartment or a smaller yard. They will simply need more walks or outdoor activities in the park.

So, the answer to the question, “Are Husky Mixes Good dogs?” is Yes, they are.

Any Husky mix is a highly energetic dog with a great sense of loyalty and a need for exploration.

This includes our work of art…the Dobsky dog.

What Is The Rarest Doberman Husky Mix Color?

Because this dog breed is a mixed breed, the color that is the rarest depends on the rarest color of the dogs used in the crossbreed.

For a Siberian Husky, the rarest color is solid white.

As for the Doberman Pinscher, the rarest color is Isabella and Fawn.

So, the rarest color of the Doberman Husky mix is white or Isabella Fawn, with either a Husky mask or Doberman eyebrow markings.

These dogs can have blue eyes or eyes in shades of brown, or in rare cases, heterochromia.

Heterochromia is a condition where both eyes have different colors, usually one being blue.

The Conclusion

As you can see, having a Doberman Husky mix is a lot of fun. It takes a lot of energy, too, and if you’re not ready to give this dog proper daily exercise, it might not be for you.

Their affectionate and intense desire to be with their humans all the time makes them great family pets. But, you have to understand that this means you have to give an appropriate amount of affection and attention in return.

This goes for their high energy levels, too. They need a lot of exercise.

You have to mentally and physically stimulate these pups in order to have a healthy and happy doggy for a long time.

Beauce of their high energy and need for regular daily exercise, the Doberman Husky mix is the perfect dog for people who have daily exercise routines or like to go hiking often.

To be honest, any outdoor activity is a treat for these lovely doggos. You won’t be disappointed with their stamina and endurance, whether you climb a mountain or go on a daily walk.

And, you won’t be disappointed with their protectiveness and affection towards children! Both dog breed genes play a part in these traits. Both the Doberman Pinscher and the Siberian Husky breeds have a strong innate desire to protect the young ones.
