Offering to take him in and groom him, Kari noted that after a good wash and cut, he would have a better chance of getting adopted or finding his original owners.
Kari reached out to the woman who posted about the dog — it was already 10:30 p.m. at that point, but she didn’t bat an eye at possibly working through the night.
“They arrived at my shop at midnight and it took three hours to groom him. A normal groom only takes an hour-and-a-half,” Kari said. “When a dog is matted that badly, it can cause its blood flow to stop as well as bruising to the dog.”
She wrote updates on Facebook saying, “he couldn’t even walk” when he arrived at the groomer. “He was carried in. His hair was so matted they became casts all over his body.”
It was obvious that he was in so much pain, but as she began carefully removing the mats, the sweet boy’s personality emerged.
“Once we shaved him, he was wagging his tail and was so happy. I knew I did the right thing.” The pup was later named Lucky, and it’s pretty clear that he was just that.
After Lucky was shaved, he got the first bath he’d probably received in years.
But boy, what a difference a good haircut can make. It was later determined that Lucky is also deaf and blind, which makes the story even more miraculous.333
After a full vet checkup and getting neutered, Lucky is now in a foster home while authorities try to find his original owners.
