If you’re one of the Star Wars fans who love dogs, I’m sure you’ll deeply appreciate our list of dog breeds that look like Ewoks!

Yes, French Bulldogs, Golden Retrievers, and Labradors are great family pets, but I’m sure we can all agree that it’s time to present some more interesting choices of pets that will win your heart because of their personalities and resemblance to the characters from your favorite movies!

The best part about all of the dog breeds that look like Ewoks is that they’re as equally adorable as the movie characters, but much less hostile!

14 Dog Breeds That Look Like Ewoks

1. Lhasa Apso

This pup is one of the cutest doggies on this list, which isn’t easy to say considering the cuteness of all these fluffy balls of fur.

It is one of the dog breeds that look like an Ewok… there’s no denying that. However, many fans of the popular movie franchise will surely notice how similar the Lhasa Apso breed is to another famous Star Wars character, Chewbacca.

The shape of the head, eye colors, and nose resembles an Ewok, but the Lhasa Apso has almost the same coat shades as Chewbacca’s.

Also, Ewoks have curlier fur, while a Lhasa Apso possesses a long and smooth coat, just like Chewie’s.

However, these pups usually don’t grow over 11 inches, so when it comes to their height, they definitely look more like Ewoks.

2. Yorkie

This is one of the toy breeds that reminds us of an Ewok in a great manner due to its thick coat and small, short nose. The shape of its head resembles the popular bipeds as well, along with the Yorkie’s coat colors.

The Yorkshire Terrier has long, silky coat hair that reaches the floor, and can range in hue from a dark steel blue to a deep golden brown.

Both male and female Yorkies have gained great popularity as family pets not only because of their size (they usually grow up to seven inches), but also for their lovely personality and the fact that they’re hypoallergenic.

In addition to the Brussels Griffon dog, this pup is one of the canine breeds that is most comparable to the appearance of Ewoks.

3. Pekingese

These pups might have longer hair than Ewoks, but the resemblance between them is still uncanny, especially when it comes to facial features, including a short muzzle and small, dark eyes.

Standard Pekingese pups can grow up to nine inches, which is why they’re usually considered a tiny breed.

However, there’s even a tinier type of these adorable pooches, known as the teacup Pekingese, which can reach the size of only six inches in full maturity.

Regardless of their size, these pooches are considered outstanding watchdogs that will defend their owner no matter what.

These pups are very friendly and completely loyal to their family, which isn’t a surprise considering that even their ancient ancestors served as companion canines for many members of Asian royalty, especially in China.

4. Toy Poodle

These pups earned a spot on our list, although not all of them look quite similar to an Ewok.

The resemblance between the two heavily depends on the coat colors of the toy Poodle.

Only brown toy Poodles look like Ewoks, with their cozy and curly coat of medium length, their tiny teeth, and their short nose.

Toy Poodles are fluffy, petite, and adorable enough to be cuddled all day without stopping.

The average height of a Toy Poodle is barely 10 inches, and they usually weigh from four to seven pounds. This type is considered to be one of the smallest dog breeds.

However, much like full-grown Poodles, these pups are active, bright, and loving, which is why they’re popular in families with small children.

5. The Affenpinscher

These pups have interesting nicknames, such as “monkey dogs” and “ape terriers”, which are the result of their distinctive face shape and expressions.

The fact that it has the psychological trait known as small dog syndrome led to it being given the nickname “mustached tiny devil.”

These pups might look cute and silly, but they’re quite good as hunting pups, especially for rodents and small animals, which is what they were initially bred for.

However, Star Wars fans find these pooches interesting because of the similarities they share with Ewoks, which is why many decide to get them as family pets.

The fact that Affenpinschers have human-like expressions, a scruffy face, and a short nose is essentially why they’re known as Ewok look-alikes.

They might be mischievous toy pups, but their cuteness will always get them out of all trouble. I mean, who could possibly resist them?

6. Bichon Frise

It’s difficult not to notice the resemblance between this adorable pup and Ewoks, for sure, especially if these pups are regularly groomed.

Both male and female Bichons are adorable Teddy bear-like pups that will make your heart melt, just like Ewoks (although Bichons are definitely less deadly).

Even though they do look a lot like these tiny creatures from Star Wars movies, the white coat shade of the Bichon Frise has never appeared on any of the Ewoks before, so this could be considered a trait that sets them apart.

Its canine facial traits are hidden by its fluffy hair, which also gives the impression that the face is much larger and the nose is much smaller than they really are.

The Bichon Frise is a breed of dog that is sometimes mistaken for an Ewok because of its black eyes, dark snout, and the impression that its hair portrays.

7. Pugshire

The cross between a Pug and a Yorkshire Terrier can look just like an Ewok dog. The resemblance is so striking that they almost look more Ewok-like than Brussels Griffons!

Both of the parent breeds are toy canines, so it is no surprise that the Pugshire is also a small type of breed.

They have a coat that is around average length, and can be practically any color, including brown, black, silver, red, blue, brindle, white, merle, or any other hue combination.

They are kind and affectionate animals that make great four-legged buddies and lap dogs. I’m sure anybody would be lucky to have one.

8. Pomeranian

This puppy breed is a much cuter version of an Ewok, and it could literally fit in your pocket, considering that they only reach up to seven inches in full maturity.

Poms have just as sweet of a personality as their outer looks, which is why they’re one of the most popular family dogs.

Pomeranians come in different shades, including black, blue, white, cream, red, orange, tan, and brown.

They can have a merle pattern as well, which makes them look even more similar to Ewoks.

However, keep in mind that these pups are lap dogs, which means that they’ll use every chance to get some cuddles from you or other family members.

9. Cairn Terrier

When compared to other dog breeds, Cairn Terriers are known for their high levels of enthusiasm and energy, as well as their joyful personality.

These pooches were bred for hunting as they had good skills in finding and exterminating small animals like mice, squirrels, snakes, and even rabbits!

These toy dogs do best in environments where they are free to sniff and dig around, as you can obviously assume. They have the same fearless attitude toward a conflict that the Ewoks have – never backing away from action.

In addition, they have a great deal in common with their counterparts from a faraway galaxy in terms of their physical appearance.

Their fur is on the shorter side, but it is wavy and thick… very similar to the dense and curly fur that many Ewoks are seen to have in the films.

10. Shih Tzu

A furry coat gives the Shih Tzu a similar appearance to that of an Ewok, which is another name for the creature that is cute, but not very safe (according to what George Lucas had in mind).

The Shih Tzu’s fur, much like that of the Bichon Frise, completely changes the breed’s facial shape, turning the pup into a round ball of fluffy cuteness.

However, that’s not even the best part! What most people love about this breed is that they’re hypoallergenic, so even those who are prone to allergies might pet them without having a strong reaction.

Both male and female Shih Tzus belong to the small-sized category of canines as they usually grow up to eleven inches in height.

Considering that the average size of an Ewok is about 35 inches, Shih Tzus look more like their mini versions that have a well-deserved reputation for being charming, clownish, and friendly.

Their size and personality traits are essentially the reasons why Shih Tzus are good with young children.

11. The Border Terrier

Although this species does not quite have the fluffy fur as an Ewok, we thought that due to its adorable small face and its similar coat color pattern, it might be mistaken for an Ewok.

Even the size of its ears and the shape of its nose all help to make it look like relatives.

Border Terriers usually come in several colors, including red, blue and tan, wheaten, as well as grizzled and tan.

These pups have high levels of energy, and are amazing in interactions with other people, even those outside the family circle.

These pups can have an excellent relationship with children, but only if they’re trained properly, which is why they require both socialization and obedience training from early puppyhood.

12. Bouvier Des Flandres

This canine is one of the best proofs that toy dogs and small-sized breeds aren’t the only ones that look like Ewoks.

Considering that the bipeds from the moon of Endor grow up to 35 inches on average, the height of Bouviers (around 28 inches) matches these creatures more than any other small breed in this article.

Similarities are also recognized in the shape of their head and face (although Bouviers have a longer nose), as well as the length and shades of their coat.

The Bouvier des Flandres is a breed of dog that is revered for the work ethic they exhibit as working dogs, and they are adored for the devotion they show to their owner and family.

13. Cockapoo

The Cocker Spaniel and the Poodle both contributed genetic material to the creation of the Cockapoo.

This designer canine was intended to be a people-oriented companion that is smart, extremely loving, and sheds very little — all qualities that make for the greatest sort of dog.

Because of its reputation as an incredibly affectionate pooch that loves its family and owner, the Cockapoo is sometimes referred to as the perfect family pet.

However, what these pups are also known for is their resemblance to the fictional furry characters from Star Wars.

Their scruffy appearance, along with round, dark eyes and curly coat hair, is what makes them look very similar to Ewoks.

Still, keep in mind that these pups might turn into real Ewoks regarding their temperament if they’re not trained properly, which I’m sure you’d like to avoid.

14. Brussels Griffon (Griffon Bruxellois)

Last, but not least (I’d actually say the most important) is the  – the first Ewok dog that serves as an inspiration for the existence of this primitive breed that first appeared in Return of the Jedi.

The story of the birth of Ewoks is already well-known, but I’d say that it’s important to mention that George Lucas based these creatures on his pet, a Brussels Griffon.

The Griffon has a height of about 10 inches, and a weight of approximately 10 pounds.

There are smooth variants of this species, but the Ewok stereotype is best represented by the scruffier, beard-sporting variation.

Also, certain Griffon crosses, such as the one with a Chihuahua (the Chussels), seem to look a lot like Ewoks, but only if the Brussel’s genes are dominant.

Final Thoughts

Some Star Wars fans might be surprised by the fact that there are so many dog breeds that look like Ewoks.

If you’re a fan of this famous movie franchise, and a dog enthusiast, I hope this list will help you pick the perfect pet, although they’re all cute, so I’m sure it won’t be an easy task.

Of course, you can always play it safe with an Alaskan Malamute, which was an inspiration for one of the most famous Wookiees (Chewbacca), or you can go with a Brussels Griffon – the main inspiration behind the Ewoks.

But, now that you have seen how many breeds resemble the Star Wars characters, why not go with a less-known Ewok-like breed?

And, for the end:

Yeha*, and may the Force be with you!

*Yeha – Ewokese expression that translates as “goodbye”.
